![]() Tell a good story and have fun. Both are the keys to having a great broadcast, and that's what I aim for every time I go on the air. I am in my first year as the Voice of the Lancers at Longwood University. Beyond doing play-by-play, I work as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications for Digital Media for Longwood.
Prior to Longwood, I worked as the Sports Information Director at Arizona Western College in Yuma for four years. I called a pair of NJCAA National Championship games for football as well as a host of playoff games for multiple sports. The summer before I moved to Yuma, I worked as a broadcast/media relations assistant with the St. Paul Saints baseball club. One of the best parts of working in St. Paul was being a part of the community and getting out to meet people as a team representative. My sports journey started with a trip to Syracuse University to get a Master's in Broadcasting and Digital Journalism. While there, I worked for the Syracuse Stampede, a Junior A hockey team (now Oswego Stampede in the NA3HL), as a play-by-play broadcaster. As a capstone course, I went to Durham, North Carolina to cover Duke athletics for The Devils Den. Currently, I live in Farmville, Virginia with my wife and two daughters! Feel free to get in touch with me anytime via Twitter or Facebook, or email me at samhovan@gmail.com. |
